Hello

I am Julia Ledger Hill, a beloved child of God; a wife to Geoff, the kindest husband; Mum to 2 persevering young adult teens, a lover of flowers, colour, the sea; a long-time poet, a disabled artist and an avid crafter since Blue Peter days!
My Story
Back in 1990 I started a nursing degree at Surrey University, a childhood dream to become a nurse was beginning to come to fruition. Having been very fit and healthy I unusually became overwhelmingly fatigued and heavy limbed after exercise lasting a week. Then I got really ill again with glandular fever (the first I was 8yrs old) but this time I never recovered. Soon after I was diagnosed with the chronic illness M.E.
M.E.- Myalgic Encephalomyelitis – a hugely misunderstood, stigmatising but very real neurological illness has since left me severely debilitated and mostly housebound all my adult life for almost 35 years.
Sadly, when my children were young the ME worsened and it robbed me of the ability to walk, talk and eat. I was completely bedbound… for years. Health professionals compounded my ongoing suffering treating me with the false belief my illness was now ‘made up in my head’. This was never how life was meant to be. ‘How long O Lord, how long?’
Having been nurtured in a Christian family I accepted Jesus into my heart at 5yrs old. Even from the early days of illness I clung to my hope in God and I found myself thrown into wrestling with the deep questions of suffering and healing whilst God seemed silent. In the quiet depths I have gradually accepted God doesn’t always fix it in our suffering but He is always present there with us, revealing Himself and gifting treasures in darkness.
My art is therefore a reflection of the silent beauty God brings from ashes, the reminders of Jesus’ presence of light bringing hope in the darkness of endless suffering, the safe refuge in Him in difficulties and the joyful celebration of life itself. My prayer is my art speaks to your heart where words often fail to reach bringing Jesus’ presence into that place. Have a browse in or buy my artwork go to
